I recently read that Nachman actually despised doctors in his day and referred to them repeatedly as messengers of death. This is probably mostly related to an anti-intellectualism and suspicion of secular science/studies, though in Lazer's case it seems to turn into a <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=doctors&btnG=%C2%BB&domains=http%3A%2F%2Flazerbrody.typepad.com%2F&sitesearch=http%3A%2F%2Flazerbrody.typepad.com%2F" rel="nofollow">full-blown pastime</a>. Kombucha is (for one thing, Chinese) all well and good, but it can't "pH balance your body", and no amount of "alkalinization" is going to cure anybody's cancer. Some forms of "alternative medicine" have some kind of worth, some of them are funny, and some of them should be damn well banned.
