Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that there’s a proposition on the ballot in California that, if passed, would deny the rights of same-sex couples to get married. In May 2008, the California Supreme Court decided that it was unconstitutional to deny marriage rights to same-sex couples, and if passed, Proposition 8 would take these rights away. Thousands of married same-sex couples would lose their status, similar couples would be unable to get married in California in the future, and California would lose its reputation as a tolerant and welcoming state.
You can help defeat Prop 8 by going to the website of No on Prop 8, where you can donate (if you’re a U.S. citizen) and find other ways to help defeat this ugly homophobic initiative. And if you’re registered to vote in California, make sure to vote against Prop 8 on November 4th.
