Vote No on Prop 8

The single best No on Prop 8 ad—official or unofficial—I’ve ever seen. Just watch it. Seriously.

The pictures are from Beth Chayim Chadashim, the first gay and lesbian synagogue in the world, located in Los Angeles.

Wow, thank you for posting that. It made me cry.

I’m sure this one’s been covered, but I was wondering how they deal with the Ketubah. I noticed what looked like a picture of one in the movie, but couldn’t make out enough of the text.

I can actually answer that, at least partially: when I volunteered at the gay weddings in Portland, Oregon, we had a few Jewish couples who wanted a ketubah. There do exist gay-friendly texts for ketubot, varying between the extremely traditional with changes of names, pronouns, etc. and the radically different where the content has been changed. (This is the approach I think I would favour—if we’re going to have gay marriage in a Jewish context, then surely the whole goats-and-sheep thing just isn’t going to work anymore, not that it does anyway in the modern context.) Maybe I’ll do a post on this later. Interesting topic.
