About Xyre

For the last several years I’ve wanted to have a space on the Net; up until now I’ve only ever used that space for storing images and posting the occasional file. Now I’m resolved to have a proper blog on a proper website. We’ll see how long this resolve lasts.

I live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I have an ongoing fascination (and academic study of) ancient languages, poetry, literature, theatre, music, philosophy, and religion. By ‘ancient languages’ I mean to include Semitic languages, Greek and Latin, and basically anything old, really. For years now I’m sure my name’s down on the list of people going to the Jewish Hell Which We Don’t Really Believe In. My other interests include ‘classical’ music in the widest sense possible, computer programming, politics, religion, and gender and sexuality issues. I also sustain an interest in photography, however badly backed up by my own mediocre-at-best photography skills. (The banner image, incidentally, is part of a photograph I took of the Lions’ Gate Bridge from a beach in West Vancouver.) These have simply got to be enough to sustain a blog. If my output is slim, it’s my imagination and tenacity that are to blame.

Well, that’s about it by way of introduction. You can contact me at sam@xyre.org. My GnuPG public key is posted here or on most keyservers. Enjoy yourself at the Xyre. Take with plenty of water. Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight. Not for use as a flotation device. Contents under pressure and may explode.
